UPSC CMS Syllabus 2023 and Exam Pattern

The UPSC CMS (Combined Medical Services) exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. The exam is conducted to recruit medical officers for various government organizations. The exam pattern for UPSC CMS consists of two stages: a written exam and a personality test/interview.

PART I:

COMPUTER BASED EXAMINATION – (500 marks)

The candidates will take the Computer based examination in two Papers, each Paper carrying a maximum of
250 marks. Each Paper will be of two hours duration.

PART II:

Personality Test: (100 Marks):

Personality test carrytestsing 100 marks of such of the candidates who qualify on the results of the Computer based examination.

  • Negative Marking: Yes(1/3 Marks)
  • Both the Papers of the CMSE will be of MBBS standard.

UPSC CMS PERSONALITY TEST – (100 marks):

Candidates who qualify in the computer-based examination will be called for an Interview/Personality Test to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 100 marks. The Interview for Personality Test will be intended to serve as a supplement to the computer-based examination for testing the General the Knowledge and ability of the candidates in the fields of their academic study and also in the nature of a personality test to assess the candidate’s intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, the balance of judgement and alertness of mind, ability for social cohesion, the integrity of character, initiative and capability for leadership.

The Computer based examination in both papers will be completely objective (Multiple choice answers) type. The question Papers (Test Booklets) will be set in English only. Candidates must mark the Papers themselves. In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to mark answers for them.
